Some speaking engagements stay with you long after they are over. My visit to Rose Hill School for its Speech Day was one of those occasions.
As a former teacher, returning to a school environment always feels like coming home. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that Rose Hill is a place where warmth, kindness and purpose shape every aspect of school life.
The pupils were exceptional, curious, confident and full of character. The staff demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping every child thrive, while the parents created a welcoming atmosphere that reflected the strong sense of community at the heart of the school. The conversations I had after my talk were genuinely moving and reminded me why opportunities like this are so meaningful.
One of the highlights of the day was spending time with Head Emma Neville. In another chapter of our careers, we taught at the same school, and it was wonderful to reconnect through a shared belief that education is about far more than academic achievement. It is about helping young people discover who they are, understand what they stand for and develop the confidence and resilience to fulfil their potential.
That philosophy is woven into the fabric of Rose Hill School. It is evident in the way the pupils learn, the way the staff lead and the culture that has been created throughout the school.
Exceptional schools are never built by chance. They are built by people who care deeply, lead with integrity and remain committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
It was a privilege to be part of such a special occasion, and I left feeling inspired, grateful and reminded of the extraordinary impact that great schools and great educators have on the next generation.
