It was a privilege to speak for Retail Trust and spend time with a group of people who are making a genuine difference to the lives of those working across the retail sector.
From the moment I arrived, the energy in the room was remarkable. There was a real sense of openness, positivity and a shared commitment to supporting others through the challenges they face both professionally and personally.
During my keynote, I shared my journey and the lessons resilience has taught me through adversity, uncertainty and change. While every story is different, the principles that help us navigate life’s challenges are often the same: perspective, adaptability, perseverance and the support of those around us.
One of the key messages from the session was that resilience is not about avoiding difficulty or pretending challenges don’t exist. It is about learning how to respond when life doesn’t go to plan. It is about finding a way forward, even when the path ahead is uncertain.
What made the event particularly memorable were the conversations afterwards. Hearing people’s own experiences, reflections and personal stories was a powerful reminder that human connection remains one of the greatest sources of strength and resilience we have.
I am incredibly grateful to Caroline Robinson and Pete Foster for the invitation and for the important work they do through Retail Trust. Their commitment to supporting the wellbeing of people throughout the retail industry is both inspiring and invaluable.
It was an honour to contribute to such a meaningful event and to spend time with an organisation that puts people, wellbeing and support at the heart of everything it does.
