Celebrating Achievement and Resilience at De Stafford School

It was an honour to be invited to speak at De Stafford School’s Academic Awards Evening, celebrating the outstanding achievements of its pupils alongside their families, teachers and the wider school community.

The evening was a wonderful reminder that success is built on far more than talent alone. Every award represented dedication, perseverance, resilience and the willingness to keep striving, even when faced with challenges.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing the pride on the faces of parents and carers. Their unwavering encouragement and support play such an important role in helping young people achieve their potential, and it was a privilege to celebrate those successes with them.

A special thank you to Headteacher Jeff Place and the entire staff team for creating such a positive and inspiring school culture. From the moment you arrive, it is clear that De Stafford School is a place where ambition is encouraged, effort is recognised and every student is given the opportunity to thrive. That kind of culture is the result of strong leadership and a team committed to making a difference every single day.

As a former teacher, returning to schools to speak is always particularly meaningful. It reinforces my belief that resilience is not something we are simply born with, it is a skill that can be developed through the right environment, positive role models and the courage to keep moving forward.

Congratulations to every student recognised on the evening. Their achievements should be celebrated, and I have no doubt that many more successes lie ahead.

Thank you to everyone at De Stafford School for such a warm welcome and for allowing me to be part of such a memorable occasion.
