Sport teaches it. Business needs it. Life demands it.
A cricket ground. A table of past players. Conversations flowing between innings.
I still remember pulling up in my little car between Chris Adams and Michael Bevan’s and feeling completely out of place. Yet last Friday, at the Past Players’ Lunch at Sussex County Cricket Club, I realised I was part of something much bigger than just sport.
It wasn’t only about matches and statistics. It was about life, about setbacks, comebacks and the resilience that underpins them all.
I had the privilege of speaking to members between innings about resilience. Not the kind you find in textbooks, but the kind forged in real life, when plans collapse, when challenges arrive uninvited and when the only option is to dig deep and find a way forward.
Because resilience isn’t just for sport. It’s for business. It’s for schools. It’s for families. It’s for anyone who’s been knocked sideways but still found the strength to stand tall again.
That’s why I share my story. Because resilience is not just something you’re born with, it’s a skill. One you can learn, practise, and strengthen. And when you do, it doesn’t just change your game. It changes your life.
