Inspiring Afternoon with Disability Cricket

It was a privilege to spend Saturday with the incredible Disability Cricket community, delivering a talk on resilience and having the opportunity to witness first-hand the talent, determination and positivity that exists within the game.

The standard of cricket was hugely impressive, but what stood out even more was the attitude of the players. Every individual embodied the belief that life is about focusing on what you can do, rather than what you can’t.

Russ Carter and his brother Simon deserve tremendous recognition for the outstanding work they are doing to grow Disability Cricket. Their passion, commitment and encouragement are creating opportunities that extend far beyond the cricket field, helping players build confidence, develop friendships and realise their potential.

As someone who has experienced life-changing challenges, this message resonates deeply with me. One of the central themes of my talks is that resilience is built by shifting our focus away from our limitations and towards the opportunities that still exist. The players I met on Saturday are a powerful example of that mindset in action.

It would be easy for many of them to allow adversity to define their lives. Instead, they have chosen to embrace challenge, pursue excellence and inspire everyone around them.

Sport has always had an incredible ability to teach resilience, purpose and teamwork, and Saturday was another reminder of why those lessons matter so much.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for such a warm welcome. It was an honour to be part of such an inspiring day, and I left feeling motivated by the remarkable people I had the privilege to meet.
